Need Some Help Getting Ready For Your Personal Branding Photo Shoot? Here’s A Guide With My 12 Top Tips!

Getting ready for a Personal Branding photo shoot is, possibly, one of the most important steps to ensure that your images will perfectly reflect your brand, and who you are!

But it can also be very stressful!

You might worry about forgetting something and you might feel that you are simply not ready, which is completely natural.

I’ll take you through subjects from hair and make up, to considering the time of day you will choose for your photo shoot, and other important things to consider.

As a consequence I hope to help you to feel much more confident in front of the camera!

Choose The Right Photographer (yes, that’s me on the photo!):

All photographers are not created the same! We all specialise in different styles, though there can be a crossover. You’ll need to select a photographer who understands your brand, style, and ethos, and who can give you the best-possible advice and support.

Review their portfolio to ensure their work aligns with your vision, and also look for feedback from previous clients.

Define Your Brand’s Identity:

Before the photo shoot, have a clear understanding of your brand's identity, values, and the message you want to convey.

This will help you plan your wardrobe, location, and poses accordingly.

Plan The Wardrobe:

Coordinate your outfits to match your brand's colour palette and style. Avoid loud patterns or logos that might distract from your message. Consider bringing multiple outfits for variety.

Claire, from Accendo Coaching, ensured that she brought along clothes which clearly reflected her brand - Autumnal tones of red and orange.

Hair and Makeup:

Depending on your brand, consider hiring a professional makeup artist and hair stylist to ensure you look your best.

If you're doing your makeup, go for a natural look that enhances your features.

Location and Props:

Decide on a location that complements your brand and its message.

Whether it's an urban setting, nature, or a studio, choose a backdrop that resonates with your audience. If relevant, bring props that tell your brand’s story.

Practice Posing:

Work on your poses and expressions before the shoot.

Communication:

Discuss your vision, mood, and any specific shots you want with the photographer beforehand.

Good communication ensures everyone is on the same page.

Timing and Lighting:

Consider the time of day and lighting conditions that suit your vision.

Early morning and late afternoon often provide the best natural light.

If shooting indoors, discuss the lighting setup with your photographer.

Prepare for Weather:

If your shoot is outdoors, have a backup plan for inclement weather.

You might need to reschedule or find an indoor location.

Relax and Be Yourself:

It's important to be genuine and authentic during the shoot.

A relaxed, confident demeanour will help you convey your brand's message effectively.

Have Fun:

Enjoy the process and let your personality shine through!

A fun and enjoyable shoot often results in the best photos, and potential clients love being able to engage with genuine human emotions.

Use The Photos Wisely:

Once you have the images, use them strategically across your branding materials, website, social media, and other marketing platforms.

And Finally… It is worth remembering:

  • A successful branding photo shoot is not just about looking good but also about conveying your brand's story, values, and personality.

  • Be clear on your brand's message and work with professionals who can help you achieve your vision!

  • The way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
